Rheumatic mitral stenosis: integrated severity
Version 2026.10.1
Separates rheumatic MS from MAC-related obstruction, post-intervention physiology and prosthetic valves, confirms rheumatic morphology, then integrates valve area (primary) with mean gradient at the recorded heart rate and rhythm, PHT and PASP (supportive). Discordance is reported, not voted away.
Quick reference:↑ Mitral stenosis
Applicability
- Native mitral valve. The RHD-2023 partition applies to rheumatic MS; MAC-related obstruction, the first 24 h after balloon valvuloplasty and prosthetic valves are routed to guidance.
- Mean gradient partition at 60–80 bpm; report heart rate and rhythm.
- Separation of rheumatic, degenerative and post-intervention physiologyWhat is the mechanism of mitral obstruction and the clinical context? The etiology determines which methods and partitions apply.
